AI features · what runs locally and what goes to the cloud
Three tiers, stated plainly: local / cloud-with-image / cloud-without-image.
"Has AI" tells you nothing. The question worth asking is which parts run on your machine and which parts send your picture away.
So this page does one thing: put every AI feature in the tier it actually belongs to. Tier one, local, nothing uploaded: AI cutout and subject select use an in-browser model (the model file downloads once on first use, and works offline afterwards), while content-aware fill, content-aware scale, smart upscale, expand, and sky replace are pure pixel algorithms. This tier is the bulk of it, and it is the part that still works with the network unplugged. Tier two, cloud, and your image does go out — exactly three features: AI scene editing, AI photo restoration, and AI colorization. The last two additionally require signing in, and after that a TutuPrints key bound under Settings; when those conditions are not met they degrade — restoration falls back to local enhancement and colorization tells you to do it by hand, rather than pretending to succeed. Tier three, networked but no image leaves: AI text-to-image sends only the prompt (what comes back is a new picture), and the AI command box only asks a model when local fuzzy matching misses, sending just the sentence you typed. On allowances: guests get a daily free quota for text-to-image, scene editing, and commands, with a sign-up prompt when it runs out; restoration and colorization are not in the quota system at all, because they are not open to guests in the first place. For the full conversational assistant — file mentions, tool cards, model choice — see the assistant page, which requires signing in.

FAQ
- Which AI features upload my image?
- Exactly three: AI scene editing, AI photo restoration, and AI colorization. Everything else runs in your own browser — including the AI cutout, which is an in-browser model. Two more use the network but send no image: text-to-image sends only the prompt, and the command box only the sentence you typed.
- What can I use without signing in?
- The entire local tier, with no account and no upload: cutout, subject select, content-aware fill, content-aware scale, smart upscale, expand, and sky replace. In the cloud tier, text-to-image, scene editing, and the command box give guests a daily free quota; restoration and colorization are sign-in only, and after signing in they also need a bound TutuPrints key.
- Does the AI cutout need a network connection?
- No. It is an in-browser model: the model file downloads once on first use, and after that it runs on your machine with nothing uploaded. That is also why it keeps working offline — provided the model has been downloaded before.
- Do any of these cost money?
- No. The local tier is free and unlimited. The three cloud features give guests a daily free quota (with a sign-up prompt when it runs out), and restoration and colorization need signing in plus a bound TutuPrints key. The only thing on the whole site that costs money is ordering physical prints — which is buying an object, not software.
