However good a phone's portrait mode is, it usually gives itself away around stray hairs and the arms of glasses; and the kind of blur a fast lens gives you assumes you brought that lens. Blurring afterwards earns its place for one reason: the photo already exists, and you still want the subject to step out of a cluttered background.

Both the subject detection and the blur happen in your own browser, so the photo never reaches a server. “Blur” goes from 0 to 100 and starts at 60; what gets detected is the subject's exact outline, not a box. If it misses something, click it on the left image with “Magic wand” or “Quick select” to add it back, and Alt+click to take it away. It is a post-processing effect rather than true optical depth of field, so wispy hair occasionally needs a few more clicks.
